Mr. Yoshimoto's masks at the Kochi Sunday Market

Every Sunday, in the center of Kochi there is a market.
Here you can buy locally grown fruit and vegetables
and also locally made products,
such as these expertly crafted masks made by Mr. Yoshimoto.

He told me he's been making them for 30 years, as a hobby.
Each mask takes about three weeks to complete.
It is clear that he makes them because he loves to create,
not as a job.
By trade he's a joiner and you can see that workmanship
reflected in the attention to detail in his masks.



There are many other stalls:
knives (which Kochi is famous for)
pottery, wooden products
and near the castle, antiques.
